Spices

Every creative recipe needs just the right blend of spices! From lighting and shadows to polygons and props, discover the little details
that add depth, dimension, and a dash of flavor to your scenes. Click on any spice below to learn more!

Polygon Count

A polygon count measures the number of polygons used to construct a 3D model. Higher counts generally allow for more geometric detail, while lower counts can make models easier to manage in complex scenes. Polygon count is only one factor affecting performance and visual quality.

High-Poly Models

High-poly models contain a larger number of polygons, allowing for more detailed geometry, smoother surfaces, and intricate shapes.

However, a higher polygon count does not automatically guarantee better visual quality, particularly with AI-generated 3D models. The results depend on several factors, including mesh quality, textures, materials, lighting, and camera distance.

While high-poly models may offer greater detail, their suitability for close-up renders should be evaluated individually.

Low-Poly Models

Low-poly models use fewer polygons to reduce the demands on your computer’s resources. They are particularly useful for background characters, distant objects, and scenes containing multiple props. Lower polygon counts can help improve scene performance while maintaining visual quality.

3D Static Props

Static 3D props are three-dimensional objects saved in a fixed shape or pose. They can be moved, rotated, and resized within a DAZ Studio scene, but they are not rigged for articulated posing or animation.

AI-Generated Elements

AI-Generated Elements

AI-generated elements are images or 3D models created with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools.

Some of 3DPixelPantry’s environments incorporate AI-generated 3D models into DAZ Studio-created backgrounds. These models may be rendered and flattened into the finished 2D backdrop or included as separate, usable static 3D props.

Occasionally, we also begin with an AI-generated 2D background, combining it with DAZ Studio characters, props, and other scene elements. The completed composition is then rendered and flattened into a single 2D backdrop.

Each product description identifies how AI-generated elements were used and specifies which assets are included in the package.

DAZ Studio Created Backdrops

DAZ Studio-created backdrops are 2D images rendered from three-dimensional scenes built and arranged within DAZ Studio.

These backdrops may feature environments, characters, props, textures, and lighting carefully composed to create a finished scene. Once rendered, the artwork becomes a flat 2D image, with the original 3D objects no longer independently movable within the backdrop.

Our fully DAZ Studio-created backdrops contain no AI-generated elements.

All 3DPixelPantry environment packages include ghost lights, a camera, an HDR-format lighting map for ambient illumination, and a shadow catcher to help integrate your own 3D characters and props into the scene.

2D Backdrop

A 2D backdrop is a flat image used as the background of a scene. It can depict a detailed environment without requiring all the pictured objects to exist as separate 3D models. Camera positioning, lighting, and a shadow catcher help integrate 3D characters and props with the backdrop.

Ambient Lighting

Ambient lighting provides general illumination that helps 3D characters and props blend naturally with a 2D backdrop.

Our environment packages use lighting maps created from the original 2D backdrop image to help coordinate the scene’s illumination and atmosphere.

These are not true 360-degree HDR environment maps. Because they originate from a flat 2D image, they do not contain complete surrounding environmental information. They are designed to complement the supplied backdrop and camera perspectives rather than provide unrestricted 360-degree lighting.

Ghost Lights

Ghost Lights

Ghost lights are light sources used to illuminate a scene without displaying an obvious lighting fixture in the final render. They provide additional control over brightness and atmosphere, helping integrate 3D characters and props into an environment.

Every 3DPixelPantry environment package includes custom ghost lights with colors selected to complement the backdrop’s lighting and atmosphere. You’re free to adjust their color and brightness to suit your own creative vision.

Shadow Catcher

A shadow catcher is a surface designed to receive shadows cast by 3D characters and props, helping them appear naturally grounded within a 2D backdrop rather than floating above it.

Every 3DPixelPantry environment package includes a shadow catcher that is hidden by default. If your scene requires realistic ground shadows, simply locate the Shadow Catcher in DAZ Studio’s Scene pane and click the eye icon beside it to make it visible. You can then adjust it as needed to complement your composition.

Camera Preset

Every 3DPixelPantry environment package includes a camera carefully positioned and framed to complement the backdrop’s perspective and composition. This helps you place your 3D characters and props naturally within the environment.

To preserve the intended camera angle and prevent accidental movement, the camera may be locked by default. If you wish to adjust its position or settings, you can unlock it in DAZ Studio.

Because our 2.5D backdrops are flat images, significant changes to the camera’s position or angle may affect how naturally your 3D characters and props blend with the background.
