“It was the power of his name that gave strength to this lame man. What you see and know was done by faith in his name; it was faith in Jesus that has made him well, as you can all see.” Acts 3:16 GNT
This verse makes it perfectly clear that Peter and John were not the ones who healed the lame man. It was repeated 3 times that it was Jesus’ power that healed the man. And it was Peter, John, and the man’s faith in the inherent power in the name of Jesus that brought about the man’s healing.
When the man took Peter’s outstretched hand, in faith that in the name of Christ Jesus he was healed, that his ankles immediately became strong and he stood!
Jesus’ name means, “the Lord saves” and “the Lord is salvation.” It comes come from the Hebrew word Ya which is an abbreviation of Yahweh (the name of Israel’s God Exodus 3:14) and the verb yasha meaning to deliver, save, or rescue.
Having faith in Jesus and God’s action inherent in Jesus’ name rescued the man from being lame. He was delivered from the lameness by the power of Jesus. Peter and John were just the hands and feet used by Jesus to interact with the man. The man was healed because He accepted Jesus into his heart as his Lord and Savior. He had faith in Jesus.
Peter made sure that all those who could hear his voice knew that Jesus healed the man. Peter knew that he, himself, was not responsible for the man’s healing. And he made it perfectly clear to others too!
Until next time with Jesus’ help let’s be less messy and choose what’s better.
